The first rockfish trip was a complete success with everyone catching their limit.  Anyone wishing to attend a future fishing trip should email Mike Seilhamer at mjs694@gmail.com to signup for the fishing email group.  We are going to plan at least a trip a month for members of the Local first and then friends or family.  Thanks again to Glenn James(St.8 “B”) and his dad for a great day!

Budget Update #2

Updated On: Jun 02, 2009 (07:24:00)

Brothers and Sisters,

Following extensive talks with Councilmen Benoit, Cohen, Dillon and Riley  they have agreed to support funding our pay raises as proposed.  Councilmen Riley and Dillon had great concern with the fact that only the represented employees would recieve pay raises while the non represented employees would not recieve pay raises as well as face potential furloughs. Councilmen Benoit and Cohen shared a concern regarding the use of the one time funding source.  However, in the end they all agreed that the employees, our members, had stepped up and worked with the county and therefore they would support funding the pay raise packages as proposed.

Budget Update

Updated On: Jun 02, 2009 (07:25:00)

Brothers and Sisters,

I recieved a phone call from one of our council memebers requesting a meeting regarding the county budget. Today, I along with Brother Howarth and sister Sosnoski met with Councilman Benoit to discuss talks that have begun on the council in reference to funding the pay raises for all county employees.  The council,it would appear, is in a battle with the county executive over how to fund the budget.  There are some council members at this time who feel that the county executive should raise the counties income tax  in order to fund the county executives initiatives.

Unfortunately, at this moment the employees of Anne Arundel County are the pawns in this political battle. We are working diligently with council members in order to get the council to pass the salary packages as agreed upon by this local and the county executive.  Should it become clear that they will not pass the salary packages as agreed upon, the principle officers of this local have instructed our attorney's to file all the appropriate paperwork to proceed with litigation against the County.  We will update this as soon as we know more information.

 Fraternally,  Craig Oldershaw
